Additional Thoughts on Unity, a Sin?

Someone has said, that “Unity among believers is not a sin in itself, but it can become a sin if it is pursued for the sake of unity rather than for the sake of Christ and His truth”.

Our prayer should be that Moravians everywhere should relook where they stand on God’s Word and whether they have an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, as Zinzendorf taught.  Unity should never compromise God’s Word.  Our Unity is always based upon God’s Word and its teachings.  What we have seen and experienced is that church tradition and religiousity, cultural walls, and a form of religion and personal agenda’s can promote disunity.  This will stop the glory of God falling upon our congregations and limit God’s presence, which we need in these end days, during our worship services.

As Moravian Revival bishops, pastors, and spiritual leaders and regular believers, we should be reminded that there are some things that can and should limit unity. We don’t pursue unity simply for the sake of unity; it is Christ and His truth that unite us.  If a Moravian Province takes a stand to allow homosexual clergy behind the pulpit (which is contrary to God’s Word), aren’t we told scripturally that we are to separate from professed brothers and sisters in Christ who live in persistent, unrepentant sin?

I don’t think I’m stretching the point but in  Matthew 18:15-17 it says,  Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.  But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.  And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.  Also in 1 Corinthians 5:1-2 it speaks of immorality impacting and defiling the Church – “It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles—that a man has his father’s wife!  And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you”.

In 2026 there continues to be a HUGE falling away from true Christianity.  People are leaving the denominational Churches wholesale.  For Moravians around the world, Unity without standing on scripture has disrupted many of our Churches.  Paul tells us in Romans 16:17,  “Watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them”.

Even though Christ prayed for believers to experience unity, Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:13 that we won’t reach full Christian unity until we attain “to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” True Christian unity in this world; propably not!  But we should seek it because that is our Moravian heritage, but be in real unity with those who follow God’s true Word.  And the unity that faith in Christ brings is truly a way to show and experience God’s love to those who sin, to win them back.  This shows us we are truly Christ’s.
