Let’s Uplift Jesus; Not Ourselves

We worship a living God! It should show on how we worship God from the moment we sit down in any Church. When we go to Church it should be a time of true encounter with God. Zinzendorf, the Moravian Renewed Leader, always uplifted Christ. His theology was always Christ centered. This morning I’m thinking of John 12:32 speaking of Christ being lifted up on the cross of Calvary and will draw many people to Salvation. We need to preach the Gospel and bring young people to Salvation as we are in the final days.
When we go to Church, we do not uplift ourselves. The focus should always be Christ and sharing the gospel and as we uplift Christ and exalt him, and not ourselves, I’ve always thought Christ will draw others to Him.
“Exalt the Lord.” To exalt literally means to praise, acclaim, worship, magnify or glorify. It also means to uplift, raise, lift, heighten or elevate. In essence, it means to lift up the Lord. To magnify his name. To praise him. To glorify him.  From what I know, the use of the phrase “lift up/exalt the Lord” refers to a state of worship. Something interesting happens when we choose to worship the Lord. We seen the manifestations at the Anchorage Moravian Church over the last several years. As we exalt him and lift him up, our perspective begins to change. As we shift our focus onto Jesus, we start to see things differently. We feel things differently. In the very act of worship-exalting the Lord-we are brought higher. As King David prayed in Psalms 61:2, “…when my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I,” we come up to that rock, Jesus, our strength and our source.
Someone else has said, “When we worship and spend time in His presence, we begin to change more into His likeness. We experience more of His character in our lives. Things like love, joy, peace, grace, mercy … grow in us! We become more and more like the one we spend time with.”
As we spend time to exalt the Lord in worship-to lift him up-who He is starts to be reflected more and more in us. Jesus, not ourselves should always be lifted up.  We are not pushing religion. We are doing everything to bring intimacy and true relationship with Jesus Christ. This should be the way of any Moravian Revival Church.
