Praise the Lord! The Moravian Revival Churches under the World Fellowship of Moravian Revival Churches and United Alaska Moravian Ministry (UIMM) continue to move forward in furthering the Gospel of the Lamb of God who has Conquered and we Follow We move forward with joy and peace and purpose with a positive spirit of brotherhood among all Moravians.
According to Bishop Isai Granwell, UIMM’s International Outreach Director, he informed UIMM’s administration that he just finished a long and productive, March 1 – 9, 2024, mission trip to Brus Laguna and Pastor Seferino’s Church in the deep jungle of Gracias a Dios, south of the Honduras’s capital city, Tegucigalpa. Along with his wife, he brought food, i.e. bananas and rice, to help feed hungry people, handed out Bibles, met with UIMM’s pastors and leadership, and held Spirit-filled Christ honoring worship services for young and old alike. Inspite of the many needs in both locations, as a whole the Mission trip was productive to further strengthen UIMM’s new found Moravian Revival Churches in Brus Laguna and Gracias a Dios.
The 11 – 12 hour trip by truck and canoe from La Ceiba to Brus Laguna was not without problems. Their 75 hp outboard yamaha broke down and they had to be rescued as they floated helplessly for hours in the middle of the black night. According to Bishop Isai, the engine gasket burned and the waves were very strong in the same area is where the disaster (several family members overturned and drowned) occurred last year, but his brother-in-law rescued them and towed them to Brus Laguna.
From Brus Laguna to Wampusirpe in Gracias a Dios, where Reverend Seferino has been building a new Moravian Revival Church, it is another 10-12 hour hour journey by canoe going through narrow water passage ways. On this trip their outboard propeller blade sheared off. They had to wait again for several hours for a used one to be purchased. Up0n return to Brus Laguna from Wampusirpe the outboard had another problem. The impeller burned, so Bishop Isai and his wife had to look another way to return to La Ceiba. Thankfully Nellie Kiunya, UIMM’s accountant in Anchorage, Alaska, at Bishop William Nicholson’s instruction, was able to send additional dollars to do repairs and assist the Granwells in returning to home base in La Ceiba.
Bishop Isai Granwell says: “Again this mission to the two communities are supported by UIMM in Honduras sharing Bibles and food to indigenous people discriminated against and marginalized by the governments in power. There is need for drinking water considering there are no wells. The sea level is very high and this impacts construction of the Moravian Revival temple building. Needed are sheets to cover walls and roofing. Needed is gasoline, more wood building materials and nails. The level of education is very low. The purchase of food is very expensive considering that one has to transport food for 18 hours by river navigation, so food and construction materials are very expensive. Illness is high. The level of malnutrition among children is very high due to contaminated water consumed by the people. The need for Bibles was requested, we bought Bibles and were able to share, the population works in planting and harvesting rice and beans, let us pray and Let’s support the neediest people in Honduras.”
Dollars are need to support the work in Honduras as well as ongoing work in America and other countries. Feel free to give an offering to UIMM on this homepage at bottom of page.
